The South African Vegan Cookbook 2 by Leozette Roode, book review by Sisi Kuzwayo

I haven’t seen the first Vegan Cookbook but this one is awesome! To be honest, even as a vegetarian, I have never actually sought out a vegan cookbook, just found recipes when I needed ideas and support over a decade ago and every now and then since.

This book is very relatable and has a broad range of options from Potato Fritters which need no more than 7 ingredients – 5 of which you probably would have in your pantry at most times – to spicy Mexican Bean Enchiladas and a whole section of kid and family friendly options. And of course, there are also lots of healthy options as well as dessert treats for that those with a sweet tooth.

This recipe book was definitely written with South Africans in mind – there’s a whole section of local recipes. But what I really like is that most of the ingredients, even for the most complex dishes, can be found in most vegan / vegan friending stores.

Leozette complied this book with lots of thought – it has beautiful pics, the layout is great, the complexity of recipes – there are options for days and definitely sprinklings of love. This is one cookbook that I will never stop referring to.
